What is Music Choice?

Music Choice is Europe's leading digital music broadcaster, available in almost 16 million homes in 18 countries across Europe and the Middle East.

We create expertly programmed digital music services, delivered via digital cable or satellite, IPTV, broadband or mobile, all free from interruptions, adverts, DJs or presenters.

Are you the same as www.musicchoice.com?

No. There is a company operating in North America under the name Music Choice. We are a separate company from them.

Today you can receive Music Choice via digital cable and satellite, IPTV or broadband in 18 countries in Europe, the Middle East and Asia. Check our How To Get Music Choice page for more information on providers.

Can I get Music Choice on my mobile?

Music Choice is not yet available via mobile phones. We are always launching new products and services, however, so this may be available soon.

What are all the different channels that Music Choice broadcasts?

Music Choice supplies up to 100 channels around the world including localised services in many regions. Our core European channel offering includes:

HITS

URBAN ROCK RETRO CLASSICAL RELAX CULTURE EURO HITS WORLD

How much does Music Choice cost?

Music Choice operates different services with each of our partners. Contact your local operator for more details.

What happens at our Digital Studio?

At the heart of our studio is a vast storage library which can hold over 500,000 music tracks. These tracks originate from CDs, tapes, vinyl and other media and are digitally processed and converted to MPEG files. State of the art software specially written for Music Choice creates up to 100 themed channels using these tracks and playlists created by our team of music experts.

We use the Sky digital satellite system to distribute our channels to digital music subscribers across Europe.

Music Choice's digital studio is located in the United Kingdom, at Crawley Court, near Winchester.

What is Song ID?

Music Choice's database contains a wealth of information relating to each track in our Music Library. Some of this information, including artist name, track title, album title and record label, is encoded with the audio stream and displayed on the screen where the technology is available, including on Sky in Italy, and Sky digital and ntl Broadband + in the UK.

Are there going to be any new channels added?

In March 2005 we re-launched our channel line-up, bringing 40 brand new compilation channels to consumers all over Europe. Check out the new channels on your local digital TV or broadband provider. For availability check the How To Get Music Choice page.

How often are new releases added to the channels?

New releases are added weekly to channels - often ahead of their official release date. All the channels are programmed weekly, ensuring that the channels sound fresh and up-to-date.

Who decides on the content of each channel?

We have a team of professional music programmers working in-house and on a consultancy basis, all of whom are experienced in their field with in-depth knowledge of a particular genre. They source new material and back catalogue, devise the playlists and programme the channels.

Can I request a song?

Music Choice does not currently take requests, but we always welcome feedback about our channels and playlists. Send your comments here: contactus@musicchoice.co.uk.

Can I submit my music for play on the Music Choice channels?

All sample CDs can be sent to Music Choice for screening. There is NO guarantee that your music will be played and sample CDs cannot be returned.

Where do I send my music?

Send your music on CD to the Music Department, Music Choice, The Old Truman Brewery, 91 Brick Lane, London, E1 6QL.

How will I know if my music is going to be played?

If you have sent your music in with a letter asking for details of playlist inclusion then it will be reviewed by a member of the Music team. Your details should be clearly marked in case we need to respond to you.

Is there a playlist available?

Playlists are available for some channels although, due to copyright law, we are unable to release our playlist schedules in advance.

How can I get information about a particular track heard on your service?

We service almost 16 million homes and are available in businesses. Therefore, it would be impossible to answer requests for song information. Thanks to advanced technology however we do offer on-screen Song ID to homes via our iTV service with Sky in Italy and the UK among others. We are working with other European and Middle Eastern partners to develop the same facility.

Are all tracks heard on the channels available for purchase?

Not all of them. At Music Choice, we pride ourselves on the breadth and depth of our music databases. In order to achieve this, some material has been sourced from private collections (having long since been deleted by the record company), some rare pieces of vinyl have been bid for at auction and then digitally transferred onto CD and some of the tracks that we play were released overseas and not available in the UK. Where possible, we always credit the original album.

How often is each track played?

This all depends on which channel you are listening to. Every channel is different. Our Total Hits channel has a faster rotation because it is based on new releases and current chart hits. Magnificent 70s, for example, is more of a "catalogue" channel designed for long periods of listening with a much broader selection of songs. Each day is programmed individually however, so you will never hear chunks of programming repeated song for song.

Why are there songs playing on your service that I cannot find online or in other retail stores? How can I obtain these albums?

The library of albums that we use to create the programming on our channels is very extensive and occasionally we do play music that may not be available to the public, because it is no longer in print from the label, or it is simply an album that most distributors do not carry (independent label or artist, imported album, etc.) Unfortunately, we cannot obtain copies of these albums for our customers. Since our consultants find many of our out-of-print albums at used record stores, we recommend contacting a local used record store in your area to see if they have a copy of the album or can help locate it for you.
